california birthday

with us moving one week before nathan's birthday, we had an early "party" for him with my family. my mom got him color wonders, which i love! (he does too)

my sister got him some shirts.
and we had in-n-out for dinner. which is the ONLY hamburger he will eat! we've tried others, but nope, only in-n-out for him.
i know it was silly to buy a huge costco cake for 5 people, but hey, they're cake is delicious, affordable, and they had a dinosaur design. lol. when we went to order it, he saw one in the case and had a meltdown as we left costco without it!

obviously we had a ton of leftover cake, so anytime we had another piece, nathan wanted to put a candle in it and have us sing to him again. it was funny. (and thanks mom, dad and cynthia for playing along, lol)
the next morning, my sister andrea dropped off her gifts to nathan. (that monster wrapping paper was so cute!)
it was playdough and some fun accessories. he must love playdough because he comes home from church with it stuck to his shoes every week!

Early Start Graduation Day

Nathan was enrolled in early start, which is like head start, but for children under the age of 3. being that tomorrow is his 3rd birthday, he no longer qualifies for that program. so his teacher had a special graduation ceremony for him advancing out.

he even got to walk across the stage.

on the back of his certificate is a picture of a pizza. they always sang this song in class. and it was the first one he learned by heart.
then with it also being almost his birthday, they had a special treat, marshmallows with frosting on it.

each of his teachers also sent him home with a birthday present! he got a 4x4 truck hot wheel, a microphone (when he started school, he would only talk into a microphone), and a cute little dump truck.
i'm definitely going to miss his teachers! we've enrolled him into a school here in tooele, and i just don't feel like it's up to par like the richardson center in bakersfield.

we've been getting together with friends a lot more lately knowing we're moving soon. last friday night we went out with our "peeps" as adults only. no kiddos! we ended up at golden corral and holy moley it was amazing! other then being with great company (wink), the food was pretty darn good! and the chocolate fountain is pretty amazing too! oh and the cotton candy! and the service was great. i like when buffets seat you. there's nothing more annoying to me then trying to find a seat (ahem in-n-out). after that we headed to the movies, bought our tickets, and ended up not seeing anything. theater was too packed to get us all sitting with each other. so we returned them. did you know you could do that? so then we went to starbucks for hot chocolate and just talked our little hearts out. jaren and i had to call it an early night, it was a long day of packing for us.

then on sunday, we got together WITH our kiddos. mark made a delicious tri-tip, willow brought her amazing cesar salad and we brought marie callendars pies. i'm sure going to miss them :(

our last week in california continues to be a busy one. we have pictures to take, job interview via phone call, school meeting (that delivered not so good news), last playgroup, early bday party for nathan, haircuts, farewell party girls night out, nathan's IEP and lastly, MOVING!

here's hoping we don't collapse by the end of the week!

the other night, during our nightly prayers, nathan spouted this out. it caught us off guard because when we have family prayer, he just sits there with his arms folded.lol.

now if only we could get him to close his eyes ;)

...

let's see... happenings lately...

* jaren gave his notice and this will be his last week as a truck driver (hopefully forever?)

* i have 2 job interviews set up for our first week in utah. fingers crossed!

* we started packing after christmas that now all we have left are the basics. so it should be a smooth process loading up the truck.

* we're packing up the truck on friday the 20th, and pulling out on the 21st and staying in st. george with our besties. then continuing on to tooele on the 21st.

* at night i get emotional with the thought of moving away from my family. i've never been more then 3 hours away from any of them. but then i get really excited at the new changes we're making. i look forward to the slower pace of life in utah. i look forward to jaren going back to school. i look forward to hanging out with my mother-in-law more often. lol. as for our friends... don't even get me started! they have been our life the past 2 years. we've created such great memories! it's going to be hard to fill that void ;) lol

* we went carpet shopping for our room today. that was fun. of course what we like, and what we can afford are 2 different things. lol

* nathan has been evaluating to see if he qualifies for headstart when he turns 3. the psychologist called me to ask me some questions and to let me know how he did with her. she had a set of flashcards with pictures on them and she would ask him what it was to see if he knew. well, when she showed him a picture of scissors, he said, "hurt". she said although that was an incorrect answer, she was shocked to hear that he knew that they would hurt. so i told her how i sew a lot and my scissors are always out and when he gets a hold of them i tell him they're owies and put them back. lol. but then she showed him a picture of a chair, and he said, "SIT DOWN!!!". she said he said it in the most sternest of voices that she had to chuckle. so i guess i need to lower my voice when i discipline him, lol. we'll find out on the 20th if he qualifies for a headstart program.

Happy New Year 2012!

nathan didn't make it, lol

my parents did though :)
but my new years kiss didn't! LOL.
new years day dinner wouldn't be complete without martinellis.
lobster tails were on sale, so my mom picked some up. then we bbq'd the filet mignons that came with our omaha steak christmas gift, and the twice baked potatoes as well. it was delish and hopefully will be our new tradition.

Christmas 2011

dear journal,
this is what christmas of 2011 looked like...

chris and erica drove up from corona for christmas eve. i made her the snuggie ;)
we had dinner with the hansen family christmas eve. nathan fell asleep on the way home. we woke him up long enough to feed santas reindeer.
and put cookies out for santa. oops! they're slipping!
and now they're gone! shoot!
oh well, santa won't notice ;)
cheese mom!
before bed mimi vacuumed and we watch, "it's a wonderful life". lol.

christmas morning jaren and i woke up around 715am. we couldn't take the suspense! we had to wake up nathan around 8am.
santa brought him a bike!
(he may have still been a little sleepy, lol)
here's nathan's loot... imaginext t-rex from aunt andrea (he LOVES it!), triceratops pillow pet. dinosaur pillowcase made by mom. camping chair. comforter for your soon to be big boy (twin size) bed.
nerf guns (that are already hidden since his aim is HORRIBLE!), 3 dinosaur train interactive dinos (to go with the 3 he already has), lightning mcqueen ballpit from uncle matt, books, puzzles, new toothbrush, hot wheels, tonka trucks, rc truck, lacing blocks, flashcards, mini dinosaurs
jaren's loot... tool box with 182 piece tool set, rapid charger for his rc car battery, beard trimmer, new hat
kathryn's loot... slice-o-matic (like a mandolin slicer), cookie scoop, cupcake scoop, lint roller, glittered toms, chocolate covered caramels w/ sea salt, big pack of gum, hot chocolate mug, new slippers, decorative cupcake liners, christmas pancake pan and a mini tripod
i've been asking for glittered toms since um, forever? he really surprised me with these! (i didn't give him enough money to buy them, LOL.) which means he's been saving his allowance. which means i married a pretty remarkably amazing man!
and here's are giftcard loot :) we can have a day out starting with breakfast at ihop, then a trip to sears, then lunch at chilis , followed by a trip to michaels, then dinner at olive garden and dewars for dessert. sweet!
forgot to mention a gift... i bought him a headlamp flashlight, and i got one too! mine's for crocheting at night or anything with black yarn. his is for, ummm, he just wanted one?
nathan thought they were pretty funny too ;)
oh and last week i got box of meat (and desserts) packed in dry ice from omaha steaks from my sister andrea :)
but the gift of the season was for my dad! my sister andrea (seriously, she's pretty amazing with her gift giving skills), bought my dad a tur-duc-ken! for those that don't know, it's a chicken stuffed inside of a duck that's stuffed inside of a turkey. mmmm?!?!?!
after all the gifts were opened, the boys went outside with their cars.
then we had breakfast. again, mom and jaren in the kitchen :)
another gift i got from jaren, was this incredibly soft wonderful comfy blanket that him and nathan cuddled up in after breakfast.

the night ended with a meat and cheese platter (didn't feel like cooking) and an ice cream cake. time for bed! we're all pretty tired now!

Ornament for 2011

Here are my ornaments for 2011 from jaren :) He tries to get an ornament that would remind me of that particular year. So these grinch ornaments are perfect! Nathan loves the cartoon and jim carrey version! one day he was playing and we heard him humming the "fa who for aze" song. It was so stinkin cute!

my nephew asked for money for christmas. so of course i had to give it to him in singles, rolled up. read the note, LOL.

don-lyn gifts

when i was pregnant with nathan, jaren's boss and his wife lyn gave us a TON of gifts!
nathan's first christmas, they gave us a TON of gifts! so their tradition is still alive on giving nathan a lot of gifts! this year he got a frog minky blanket, a veggie tale christmas book, a disney cars 2 book with 350 stickers, this e-reader sort of thing with disney books in it and a box of classic learning toys (lacing and tying shoes, a clock and abacus.)

so a big thank you to them! he loves them all!

aprons with hotpads

i kind of threw together a couple of different patterns to make these.

they make this kind of batting called insul-bright for making hot pads.
