Easter 2011

it was a weird tough weekend for us. originally our plan was to go camping at my parents. but on thursday they came here instead to prepare funeral arrangments for my dads brother who is not doing so well :( so instead, we spent easter at home.

i'd rather nathan not learn that every holiday is filled with a grip of candy. which we all know the easter bunny has nothing to do with the crucifixion. so instead we went with more useful items. our summer will be primarily spent at the beach. so we got him some toys to play with (in the car and on the beach), a new sand bucket, 2 pairs of sandals, 2 pairs of crocs, 2 new swim trunks, 2 rash guards, new sunglasses, new hat, and a "swim cover-up" (aka a shorter bathrobe)

he had no intention to come down the hallway knowing i was camera ready!
dad had to convince him
but when he realized
he was interested!
he got the hang of it pretty well ;)
i've been waiting for strawberries to go on sale. so when they finally did, we had to buy them! and jaren made me strawberry crepes for breakfast :)
my parents had to leave to "go back to work". but my sister and her 3 kids came over for dinner. we had rolls, stuffing, au gratin potatoes, fruit, veggies and ham.

i'm glad we have a nice break of holidays until the next one! i'm getting tired ;)

boye vs susan bates

can someone please explain to me why both of these hooks are "G", and although they're different brands, they're also TOTALLY different!!

the boye brand "g" hook is 4.25mm. the susan bates brand "g" hook is 4.00mm. and it may not seem like THAT big of a difference...

but look how different the hooks actually are!!
i learned the hard way the difference 0.25mm can make!

and when you google crochet hook sizes, some say a G should be 4mm. and that's from the craft yarn council! (who knew such a council even exsisted, lol)
and others say it should be 4.25mm.
SO WHO'S RIGHT?!?! and why is this the only hook that has this issue?

re-purposing little boy shirts

nathan has these long sleeve shirts that i got only 6 months ago. i knew they wouldn't last (size wise) until next winter. so i decided to turn them into short sleeves so i can still get some use out of them this summer.

this is very hi-tech, so pay attention ;) i matched up at the armpit seam a short sleeve shirt he already had and added a little bit for the hem and cut off the rest.
reminder to cut off the buttons from the selvage piece and save for another project :)
i ironed 1/4 inch seam onto the short sleeve portion of the shirt, then folded it again another 1/4 inch and sewed.
all done!

Awareness Ribbon Hat

------------------------------------------------------------->
as you see, i'm a team captain this year for our local relay for life event! (click here if you want to donate) i wanted to make a special hat to wear and someone on etsy referred me to this pattern from crafty andy. at first glance i was thinking it was WAY beyond my crocheting skills! i've never used a graph and intermingled colors like this before. but his pattern was written in lamens terms that i had no problem figuring it out! so if you crochet, challenge yourself and you may be surprised :)

there were some adjustments made to get a better fit, so mine is not identical to andys. but it still gets the point across.

yay? a new shipment...

why do i feel like i'm the only one!

Black Angus Cheesy Garlic Bread

my sisters boyfriend got us hooked on this bread and i never remembered to write down the recipe! so last night, i found one online and we HAD to have it with our lasagna!

ingredients:

1 loaf French bread
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup shredded asiago cheese, you could try parmesan
1 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 bunch green onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, pureed

let me start with this first...
a friend had asked me to sew some ties for her. in exchange, she spoiled me for a week with some of her YUMMY goodies! i got fresh lettuce from her garden, the best chocolate chip cookies ever (seriously!), cake cookies that had rolos and peanut butter in the middle (YUM!) and last night, it was homemade french bread! it was this golden brown soft deliciousness!

back to the recipe... mix it all together in a bowl
spread it on your bread...
Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes, and place under broiler about 3 minutes longer.

ENJOY!

Packaging Tape Frame

saw it, loved it, had to make it!

sometimes he'll let me take a picture...

othertimes, not so much...
but when dad's around, he's all giggles and smiles!
