my saturday morning started out as usual. wake up, change nathan, feed nathan, check the blogs. tomorrow i'm off on "vacation" for 7 days and i have a list that's a mile long of things to do, on top of finishing up some sewing projects that MUST be taken with me! i was "bummed" (not really though) when i came across the make it and love it blog and saw these water bottle slings and knew we HAD to have them for disneyland! so yet another thing was added to my "must do" list before i leave. so i pulled out my fabric stash and started sewing away! glad they're all done and ready to go :) thanks ashley for the great tutorial!

and today as i was checking out the little birdie secrets blog i found out that...
The winner of the I Have a Notion giveaway is
Kathryn of The Gilbert Family

ME!! I was a giveaway winner! WAHOO! kelly from i have a notion was giving away 4 luggage tags...
i sign-up for giveaways all the time and never win. so this win is HUGE for me!

found these pictures on a website where they can put them on a

nathan is now 4 months old. YAY! here he is in one of the outfits my sister in law sent us. it's 9 months! looks like we're right on target for having a big boy :)
he LOVES bathtime!

my mother was sharing this poem with me this morning and i wanted to pass it along. how great would be as a huge plaque in your house! LOL.

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait til tomorrow,
For babies grow up, we've learned, to our sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep

The title of the poem is "Song for a Fifth Child" by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton. It was published in The Ladies' Home Journal in 1938.

happy friday everyone! :)

i'm shouting it from the rooftops i'm so excited to be a part of this! i went to a training meeting tonight at the local hospital to become a volunteer at the new ronald mcdonald house that is opening up here next thursday. i won't be here for the grand opening (disneyland next week), but the house won't even be ready for families just yet. i got my official uniform tonight also :) i can't wait to donate my time!!

in honor of our upcoming disneyland trip i made these shirts for my niece and nathan.

dessert last night was delicious :) german chocolate cake with coconut pecan frosting. we are huge cake fans!!
i found this tutorial on london mummys blog and knew i had to make them! they're called skittles. i just call them soft bowling ball and pins :) but anyways, they were fun to make! the bottoms are filled with rice and the rest is polyfill, so they stand nicely. the top and bottom have white cordorouy for better grip on the carpet. my ball looks more like an heirloom tomato. but i think once nathan gets a hold of it, it won't matter the shape, he'll just chuck it!
and thank you person on craigslist who had this jumper for about 1/4 of what it's going for right now at target. my baby is growing too fast! all he wants to do is jump now!

Happy Memorial Day!

here's a picture of my mother who served in the navy back in the 60's.

i'm sure she'll be singing "anchors aweigh" ALL day, LOL.

here you go mom... in honor of you serving our country :)

nothing too exciting to report. with my upcoming vacation, i've been sewing like crazy to get things finished for my family who has requested things so i can deliver them in person instead of mailing them. so far i've made 2 snuggies, 2 aprons, 2 oven dresses, 2 grocery bag holders, 1 rag quilt and 1 pvc chair w/ sling. i still have... 1 denim picnic blanket, 2 towel bibs, 2 skittles, 1 pillowcase dress, 1 hair scarf, 2 mickey mouse t-shirts and onesies and a stroller blanket. and somehow need to get things ready for jarens birthday so when i get back i'm not running around like crazy.

i have been playing around with my new cupcake tips. VERY FUN! these are carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.
and they were delicious filled :)

1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
1/2 can evaporated milk

UPDATE:

* we made chocolate eclairs this weekend. no picture because they were gobbled up too fast. they were DELISH!

* nathan is continuing to improve with his rolling skills and has now discovered he can grab his toes. unfortunatly his belly is quite chubby and he can't get those toes in his mouth like he wants to. ROFL.

* my sister is taking nathan and i with her on there summer vacation in 2 weeks. we're going to DISNEYLAND (YAY!) for 2 days, the beach, having a family picnic in huntington beach and possibly checking out the aquarium of the pacific in long beach.

*jaren and i will be volunteering at the ronald mcdonald house that is opening up here. we think it's a GREAT place!!

*and i think i found out how the swine flu started!

our friends were finally able to bring there baby home after 6 weeks of being in the hospital. all is going so well with them. last night we took them dinner and dessert and visited for a few hours.

we're still getting use to the checkboard cake pans. it's not that easy and very messy!

i'm tired of having a messy ribbon box!
saw an idea on numorous blogs and thought i'd try it out! rolling the ribbon around a clothespin. it saves lots of space!

we got invited to a 630pm birthday party around 430pm yesterday. luckily i was able to whip this up in time.
i must've worn nathan out because he was asleep at 8pm and didn't wake up until 945am!!!!!!

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

i saw a pattern on tuesdays with molly for a childs apron and knew i must try it out. so anissa, these are on there way to you hopefully tomorrow (notice the strawberry, apple, and oranges, lol)
and with the extra fabric i made a hair scarf to hold the hair back as they cook

and nathan rolled over today for the first time! i was shouting for joy! he did it twice and the second time jaren was able to see it. we're both the proudest parents, LOL.
