recent crafts

picture frame for friends who recently blessed their 4th daughter at church :)

my new kitchen curtains
while camping a few weeks ago, my mom and i discovered the BEST cookie made by the brown butter cookie company in cayucos. when i came home, i just HAD to find the recipe and try my hand at it. no such luck on the exact recipe, so i compiled every recipe i found and used every review suggestion on how to better it and voila! i made them and they rock! the only thing they're missing that the originals had is sea salt.
i found this fleece baby blanket at the 99cent store. i love that place! but the blanket was BLAH! so i crocheted a simple stitch around the edge and appliqued words onto it. (original idea found here) and i love how it turned out!

we made tamales again for a "break the fast" we were having with a group of friends. it's getting to be that time of year soon!
(picture out of order) we recently went down to the LA temple with our ward. have you seen the new re-modeled visitor center? it's AWESOME!
for the break the fast, we also took a dessert. let me introduce you to my new favorite cupcake flavor, CINNABON! here's the recipe for the batter and frosting :) i also tried a new technique when i frosted them. watcha think?
here's what happened to a few cupcakes when i wasn't looking. he had a sand shovel and was scooping them closer to the edge so he could grab them! then he would take off with it!
to me, this is a good craft gone bad. i saw the idea here. and for me, it was much harder than it originally appeared. and i hate how mine turned out :( so good luck to anyone who's going to give this a try!

Milk and Cookies Baby Shower

i threw a baby shower last week with a friend from church for another friend from church. it was a milk and cookies theme.

i made diaper banners and hung them throughout my house.

we played FUN games! of course the traditional, "how many are in the bottle". we also played, "name that tune". where the title of the song had the word baby in it and they got 1 point each for guessing the song and the artist. and lastly, "name that celebrity baby name", where you matched up the WACKY baby names to their famous parents.

i contacted (thanks to the wonderful facebook) the sister-in-law of the new mom and asked her to email me pictures of the new baby and printed them out, framed them and used them as part of the decor.
we had around 20 dozen cookies to munch on! as the shower favor, we bought white lunch sacks, printed out a sticker label that matched the theme and each lady got to take home however many cookies they wanted :)

our beverage area with of course, my fav, the diaper baby.

i made personalized water bottle labels. i loved this! added a friendly touch to it.

she got quite the loot of diapers and wipes!

oh these darn martha stewart tissue paper pom poms! i've been trying the last 2+ years to "master" making these and mine turn out HORRIBLY! thankfully, my shower thrower partner made awesome ones!

overall, great turnout, great food, great gifts, couldn't ask for more than that!

p.s. AFTER the shower i went and saw twilight eclipse and didn't get home til 130am. i'm too old to hang with the big girls! lol. but btw, i LOVED the movie and it made me even a bigger fan!

Baby picture frame

i was throwing a baby shower and wanted something different to give to the mom. since she had her baby a few weeks ago, i knew all the stats and decided to make a picture frame.

Michaels had 7 1/2 inch square un-finished wooden frames with a 3 1/2 inch picture opening. i opened microsoft word, found a digiscrap page i liked, made it 7 1/2 inches, added all the info, printed it out on cardstock and mod podged it onto the frame.

she loved it and so do i! i think i'll be making this one more often!

weekend events

i attended a babyshower. here's ms. preggo with my sister :)
the 2010 kickoff for relay for life was on saturday. the energy there was amazing!

there were inspirational speakers. music and dancing. and good food :)
i've kept my resolution of donating at least 1 blanket/month to the project linus organization. this month i was able to donate 5. next month i'm shooting for at least 4.
i made a girlie version of a car seat tent. i added fabric flowers on the handles. i love this fabric! if you're peaking lisa, this ones already on it's way to you. and i may have thrown in a minkee/flannel blanket because i'm a sucker for cute babies :) hope she likes them!
i know 2 women who just had their first baby boys and were talking about peepee teepees and how they can't find them in a store and don't want to order them. so i whipped some up for them. so if they're peaking at this, these are on there way to you too :)
